Rosamund Pike
Born in London
in 1979, Rosamund Elizabeth Pike is an actress. She was the sole child of a
classical violinist mother Caroline (Friend) and an opera singer father Julian
Pike. Due to her parents' jobs, she spent her early childhood traveling around
Europe. Pike was born in Bristol and attended Badminton School. She then began
her acting career at the National Youth Theatre. When she was in a National
Youth Theatre production of "Romeo and Juliet", she was first noticed
and signed by an agent, although she continued her studies at Wadham College,
Oxford, where she took classes in English Literature, eventually graduating
with an upper-second class honors degree.Pike has appeared in a variety of UK
TV shows such as Wives and Daughters (1999) prior to making her feature film
debut as the stunning beauty "Miranda Frost" in the James Bond film,
Die Another Day (2002); at the time the film premiered it was released at just
23. While her debut film was a big-budget action movie, her film performance
was mostly in smaller independent movies like Promised Land (2004) and The
Libertine (2004). The Libertine won her the Best Supporting Actress Award at
The British Independent Film Awards for this film. Pride & Prejudice
(2005) was her first film. Following the action film, Doom (2006) and the
suspense film Fracture (2007), Pike made a brief foray into Hollywood film. She
then returned to smaller film with exceptional performance in three films: An
Education (2008) as well as Made in Dagenham (2010) as well as the leading role
with Paul Giamatti in Barney's Version (2010). In 2012, Pike portrayed the role
of Andromeda in the sci-fi epic Wrath of the Titans (2012). She returned to
action films as the female lead alongside Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher (2012).
